The water has a size of 13.9 hectares and is 65 m above sea level. NHN . The maximum size of the lake is 590 meters by 410 meters. The shores of the Hofsee are covered with reeds and surrounded by forest at both the north and south ends. On the west bank a row of trees and bushes separates the lake from agricultural meadows, while on the east bank lies the manor house of Federow.
Since 2008 it has been possible to go around the lake on a 2.5 km long circular hiking trail, which is part of the network of trails in the adjacent Müritz National Park and at which there is a birdwatching vantage point.
