The Hofsee bei Speck is located in the Kargow municipality , in whose municipality there are two more Hofsee lakes. The Hofsee near Speck is the largest of these three lakes. The body of water is located southeast of Waren in the west of the Müritz National Park in the Mecklenburg Lake District in southeast Mecklenburg. The lake is approximately 2400 meters long and 700 meters wide.
The heavily reeded lake is located in the middle of the marshland on the east bank of the Müritz, nestled between Specker See in the west and Priesterbäker See in the east. The lake to Müritz drains over a ditch to the Specker See , from which it is only separated by a 450 meter wide land bridge .
The body of water lies within the Müritz National Park . Fishing and swimming is only allowed on two shores in the northern part of the lake. The northern half of the lake can be sailed with boats without a motor.
The village of Speck is on the north bank and in the south at the Faule Ort biological station the lake borders the Rechlin municipality .
