The Specker See is located in the Kargow municipality southeast of Waren in the west of the Müritz National Park in the Mecklenburg Lake District in southeast Mecklenburg. Only a 1700 meter wide land bridge separates the lake from Müritz to the west . It is approximately 2800 meters long and 1300 meters wide.

description

The water lies within the protection zone I (core zone) of the Müritz National Park , fishing is therefore only permitted with a special permit.

The heavily covered lake is located in the middle of the marshland on the east bank of the Müritz, embedded between Röbelscher Wold and Specker Wold in the west and a forest area in the east. The lake to Müritz drains via the Flötergraben, built in 1866, and the “branch canal north” created between 1932 and 1934 as a connecting canal and for drainage.

Dead birch forest in the vicinity of the Specker See

Above all to the west of the lake there is a swamp moor, which was once drained. This process lasted until 1989. Then the artificial drain, the "Hermannsgraben", was closed and the water level rose again. As a result of this process, the existing birch forest died and typical bog vegetation developed. The existing agricultural area south of the lake was also marshland and now offers a habitat for water birds and waders.
