It consists of four roughly 1.2 × 1.2 meters large boulders , which form a chamber that is open to the south and covered with a capstone of 1.3 × 1.8 × 1.0 m, which was probably originally longer. So-called bowls were found on the top of the capstone . The dolmen was originally covered with a round or rectangular mound.

About 7.0 km south of the Hofterupsdösen is the passage grave Gillhög .
