There are two hills called Hog Hill in the Moorfoot Hills. The present hill is not to be confused with the northeastern Hog Hill in Midlothian .
About 1.2 kilometers west of the Hog Hills is the village of Eddleston on Eddleston Water , which marks the eastern edge of the Moorfoot Hills. The small town of Peebles is around six kilometers south.

Various streams run along its flanks and flow into Eddlesdton Water . The surrounding hills include the Cardon Law in the southeast, the Dundreich in the northeast and Bowbeat Hill to the east . Historically, the Baronate White Barony stretched east of the Hog Hills (the corresponding Black Barony begins at Eddleston Water and extends to the west).
