The Hohe Brücke was a road bridge over the Děčín – Dresden-Neustadt railway in Dresden . It connected the sea suburb with the south suburb .

history

The forerunner of the Hohe Brücke was the Bergstrasse Bridge, which led the Bergstrasse straight across the tracks to Plauenschen Platz . In the course of the new construction of the main station, which began in 1892, including the elevation of the railway systems and the extension of Strehlener Strasse as the new Bismarckstrasse (today Bayrische Strasse) to the northwest as far as Hohen Strasse parallel to the tracks, the straight continuation of Bergstrasse over the tracks proved to be impractical. The Bergstrasse Bridge was demolished and replaced by the Hohe Brücke, which branched off at right angles from Bismarckstrasse a little further west of the intersection with Bergstrasse and passed over the railway facilities there. The section of Bergstrasse on the other side of the tracks to Plauenschen Platz was renamed Kohlschütterstrasse. The Hohe Brücke was officially named in 1894 after the Hohe Strasse that flows into it not far.

A horse-drawn tram had been running from the Bergkeller in Räcknitz to Dippoldiswalder Platz via Bergstrasse and the Bergstrasse Bridge since 1890 . From the middle of 1894 this was then also routed over the Hohe Brücke, and there was also a branch directly behind the Hohe Brücke to Bismarckplatz . In 1899 the line was electrified. In mid-1933 there was a downgrading to the operating line between Dippoldiswalder Platz and Hoher Brücke, the line to Räcknitz was closed. In February 1945 the operating line was shut down.

In the course of the electrification of the railway line after the end of the war in the 1960s, the Hohe Brücke was demolished, as its clearance was no longer sufficient to attach the catenary . The same fate overtook the Chemnitz Bridge and the Falken Bridge to the west . In place of the three bridges, the Budapester Strasse bridge was built until 1967 , which was part of the completely new Budapester Strasse street . With the extensive redesign in this part of the Seevorstadt, Plauensche Platz and Kohlschütterstrasse also disappeared, which were replaced by a large connection between Budapest and Ammonstrasse .

The remains of the abutment on the wall on Bayrische Strasse still bear witness to the high bridge. Parts of the bridgehead have also been preserved there.
