course

The Budapester Strasse begins at Dippoldiswalder Platz , into which the Dr.-Külz-Ring and Waisenhausstrasse as well as the Marienstrasse and Reitbahnstrasse merge. From there, the road runs in a south-westerly direction through the Seevorstadt to the Budapester Strasse bridge . It crosses the Děčín – Dresden-Neustadt railway line , and Ammonstrasse ( 26th ring ) is connected to the bridge . After leaving the bridge, the street continues through the southern suburb. At the intersection with Nürnberger Strasse and Nossener Brücke, Budapester Strasse merges into Chemnitzer Strasse , Bundesstrasse 173 bends into Nossener Brücke and is part of the outer city ring there .

House numbering begins at Dippoldiswalder Platz and follows the principle of orientation numbering . Since the directional lanes are structurally separated, you can only turn into the streets on the right (except at the Josephinenstraße junction). To the west of the Budapester Straße bridge there is the option of changing lanes in order to reach the other streets.

history

The Budapester Strasse bridge opened in 1967.

Around 1930 today's Budapester Strasse was part of Chemnitzer Strasse. It began at Plauenschen Platz , where the intersection with Ammonstrasse is today. The connection to Dippoldiswalder Platz was made through Große Plauensche Straße . Via one of three road bridges just west of Dresden Central Station , the road connected to the more important Annenstrasse / Falkenstrasse, which was led over the railway line with the Falkenbrücke along the border between See- and Wilsdruffer Vorstadt . From there on, the road to Plauen continued on a route that has hardly changed to this day.

During the Second World War , the area around the old Chemnitzer Strasse was almost completely destroyed. In the GDR , the road was rebuilt as a four-lane main traffic route in 1963, initially under the name Chemnitzer Straße . On December 28, 1967, the new bridge was opened to traffic, replacing the three bridges in the area. In 1968, the expanded Chemnitzer Strasse - the city that gave it its name was called Karl-Marx-Stadt since 1953 - was renamed Budapester Strasse, and the remaining section was named FC-Weiskopf- Strasse.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall , Bundesstrasse 173 was moved from Freiberger Strasse over the Nossener and Löbtauer Bridge to Budapester Strasse.

Development

Most of the buildings on Chemnitzer Strasse were destroyed in the Second World War. An exception was today's “ Feldschlößchen- Stammhaus”, which is operated for catering purposes and is a listed building. An office and hotel complex was built around the main building in 1998, which today houses the Dresden Employment Agency, among other things .

On the opposite side of the street, eleven-storey blocks of flats in prefabricated construction (type IW66 P2 ) with around 1000 apartments were built between 1973 and 1974 . On the wall of the house on Nürnberger Straße there is also a listed mural by R. Meschke, which, however, is covered by the insulation layers applied during the renovation of the prefabricated buildings and is therefore no longer visible.

At Dippoldiswalder Platz is the “ Margon House ” with its striking neon advertising for the Margon water . The building was in 1966 for the Economic Council of the district of Dresden built and carries advertising since 1967. She is also recognized as a cultural monument.

traffic

The Dresden Transport operate the bus line 62 ( Dölzschen - Johannstadt ), which the Budapest street has six stops in its course. You are at Dippoldiswalder Platz, at the Josephinenstrasse intersection, on the bridge, on Schweizer Strasse, at the main building and at the Nürnberger Strasse intersection. The transport companies also planned to replace the bus line with a new tram line that runs on the already existing median of Budapester Strasse and connects Plauen with Johannstadt. The project has since been postponed from funding.
