Coordinates: 35 ° 1 ′  S , 138 ° 31 ′  E The City of Holdfast Bay is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . Holdfast Bay is part of the metropolitan area of Adelaide , the capital of South Australia. The area is 14 km² and has about 35,000 inhabitants (2016).

Holdfast Bay is roughly in the middle of the Adelaide coast to the Saint Vincent Gulf, southeast of the city center. The area includes 12 districts, including Brighton, North Brighton, South Brighton and Glenelg, Glenelg East, Glenelg North, Glenelg South and Hove, Kingston Park, Seacliff, Seacliff Park and Somerton Park. The administrative headquarters of the council is in the Brighton district in the center of the LGA, which is home to around 3500 residents (2016).

Holdfast Bay City Council has 13 members. 12 Councilors are elected by the residents of the four wards (three each from Glenelg, Somerton, Brighton and Seacliff Ward). These four districts are determined independently of the districts. The council chairman and mayor (mayor) is also elected by all residents of the city.
