The Holmes Glacier is a wide glacier on the Banzare coast of the East Antarctic Wilkesland . It flows into the western part of Porpoise Bay 16 km south of Cape Spieden .
Aerial photographs of Operation Highjump (1946–1947) were used to map it. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 1953 after Silas Holmes (1815-1849), assistant surgeon on the Porpoise in the United States Exploring Expedition (1838-1842) under the direction of Charles Wilkes .
