The Holmes rock is a small rocky island off the Budd Coast of the East Antarctic Wilke country . In the group of Balaena Islands , it is located 2.3 km southwest of Thompson Island .
The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named it after Leslie Holmes, radio operator on board the British factory ship Balaena , from which the Budd and Knox coasts were mapped in 1947 .
