Holthusenbad

The bath designed by Fritz Schumacher was opened in 1914 as the Eppendorf bathing establishment. Fritz Schumacher combined the two swimming pools and the bath tubs of the "Badeanstalt" with the registry office and a book hall (new buildings were built to replace them in the area of Kümmellstrasse and Lenhartzstrasse in the 1950s). Another special feature was the heated outdoor pool set up in 1927, which was unique in Europe at the time. The bathing establishment was then renamed Holthusenbad in 1948 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Hamburg waterworks. It is named after Wilhelm Holthusen (1874–1934), the longstanding (1924–1933) managing director of Hamburger Wasserwerke GmbH, which was founded in 1924. The new bath building replaced the river bath that was abandoned during the Alster canalization , the Eppendorf bathing establishment. Concrete , a material that was modern at the time of construction, is clad with decorative brick and clinker bricks arranged in ribbons . The mansard roof and ridge turrets are reminiscent of baroque models. By including a registry office and a book hall , the building served not only for hygiene and recreation, but also for education and administration. Today the Holthusenbad is part of the Bäderland Hamburg GmbH association.

Ensemble "Kellinghusenpark"

Kellinghusenpark
Heilwigstrasse

The residential buildings on Eppendorfer Landstrasse, Gustav-Leo-Strasse and Goernestrasse were built on former park lots. The rest of the Kellinghusenpark has been saved for the public. The designs come from the architects Gebrüder Gerson and R. Friedmann. The rental houses for bourgeois claims are examples of housing construction in the 1920s. The “ new building ” is combined here with brick as a material, as is typical of Hamburg.

The theater play Esther Leben from Thalia Treffpunkt was also performed here in spring 2006 .

Ensemble Heilwigstrasse

In 1923 the construction of the apartment blocks with large apartments began on Heilwigstrasse, continued on Kellinghusenstrasse with medium-sized apartments around 1925 and completed in 1936 with smaller apartments on Faaßweg based on the concept of the 1920s. The architects were Zwinscher & Peters.
