Inner-city canals in Hamburg

The towpath canal is a canal in Hamburg-Winterhude .

It was laid out in 1861 on behalf of the developer Adolph Sierich parallel to the Alster so that the wet meadows on the left bank of the Alster could be drained and built on. It begins below the Winterhuder Fährhaus and runs parallel to the Alsterlauf ( Alsterstreek ), which was channeled at the beginning of the 20th century . It branches off from the Alsterstreek at the landing stage of the Alsterschifffahrt "Winterhuder Fährhaus" and runs on its left (eastern) side behind the houses and properties of the street Leinpfad to the Rondeelteich .

The road towpath was after leading along time at the Alster linseed or towpath named, drawn on the barges on leashes upriver ( towed were). The villa plots are located on the former wetlands, while the towpath leads along the Alsterstreek; therefore it is often mistaken for the towpath canal.

The Alsterstreek on the towpath

The Alsterstreek forms the border between the districts of Harvestehude , Eppendorf (in the west) and Winterhude (in the east), the actual towpath canal runs within Winterhude. The CDU Hamburg has its office on the Leinpfad, among others, in the Ludwig-Erhard-Haus .

The Leinpfad road is part of Veloroute 4 . It is the whole length of the bicycle street .
