Thesings cross; The Pickerweg runs behind the striking hedge

Holzhausen is a small farming community in Vechta in Lower Saxony , through which the Pickerweg runs, a trade, pilgrimage and military route that was used as early as the Middle Ages and connects Wildeshausen with Osnabrück . On the road "In Thesings cross" a Jakobskapelle said to have stood for pilgrims to Pickerweg as part of the "Via Baltica" (from the Baltic States to Osnabrück running part of the network of 1496 from Jakobswege used).

The north bypass Vechta was relocated through the village from 2008 to 2010 , the construction work was completed with the opening of the road on June 12, 2010. There used to be a small train station in Holzhausen on the Delmenhorst – Hesepe railway line , but this has been dismantled so that the NordWestBahn trains can only pass through.
