Stoppelmarkt is a district of the city of Vechta in Lower Saxony . It is named after the Stoppelmarkt , first mentioned in a document in 1298 , which is considered one of the oldest fairs in Germany. The district includes a residential area east of the indoor wave and outdoor pool Vechta as well as the Westerheide and the exhibition area Stoppelmarkt , where the Stoppelmarkt takes place every year.

history

The market was first mentioned in a document in 1298, but not yet under the name "Stoppelmarkt". Until 1577 the market took place in the streets within the fortress walls of Vechta. Merchants from many European countries met on this market. In 1577 it had to be moved to the harvested fields in front of the city gates because of the plague . Since it took place in stubble fields , it was named after it.

Infrastructure

The station Vechta-Stoppelmarkt is located on the railway line Delmenhorst-Hesepe and during events at the exhibition site of the RB 58 ( Osnabrück - Bremen , operated by the North Western Railway ) approached. Due to the increasing number of visitors to the Stoppelmarkt by train, the city council is discussing an expansion of the station. The trade and industry show NordWest in Vechta , which will take place for the first time in April 2011, would also benefit from this.

During the stubble market, around 25,000 car parking spaces will be provided in the surrounding meadows and fields. They are also used as parking spaces during the trade and industry show.
