history

PC20

In 1986 the Honda CBR 600 F (internal name: PC 19) was presented to the market, which was the first fully faired motorcycle with a displacement of 600 cc. At the same time, the CBR 500 F (internal designation: PC 20) was launched in some selected markets - u. a. Austria - presented. It was largely identical to its big brother, only with a weaker engine (498 cm³). Visually, the motorcycles could only be distinguished by the changed lettering on the fairing (500 F vs. 600 F). The engine has two overhead camshafts , 16 valves, water cooling and generates an output of 72 hp. In the delivery condition, however, it was throttled to 35 kW / 48 PS. The maximum speed is 12,000 rpm and the top speed approx. 210 km / h. The chassis had a central spring strut with deflection lever at the rear and a telescopic fork at the front . This structure ensured good driving stability and easy handling. A double disc brake at the front in combination with a single disc brake at the rear ensured adequate deceleration.

The Honda CBR 500 F (PC 20) was produced almost unchanged from 1986 to 1993; Only the smallest modernization measures were carried out (e.g. resetting the indicator by pressing the middle instead of countermoving the lever). After that, production was stopped.
