The CB 650 C is a "soft chopper" developed in the late 1970s. Soft chopper because this construction was not an independent development. In order to be able to serve the fast growing chopper market, one took the frames of road machines - here the CB 650 - and transformed them into a "chopper" with optical retouching such as a different handlebar, drop tank, stepped seat and a smaller rear wheel.
history
Due to the success of the CX 500 C, Honda stuck to the soft chopper principle for several years. Different models were created in this way. These include, for example, the CM 400 T, CB 750 C, CX 650 C and of course the CB 650 C, also called RC 05 internally. Honda delivered these in two different horsepower classes: 63 and insurance-favorable 50 hp. To increase performance, the 63 hp version received a different carburetor system and a sharper camshaft.
Test reports
Contemporary test reports in various motorcycle magazines confirm that Honda had hit the right concept with the CB 650 C. The magazines are full of praise. The fundamentally good quality of the motorcycle, the good equipment, effective brakes, the low consumption and the smooth, precise shifting are positively emphasized. But there were also negative things to report. The bad tires, deviating performance values (measured 47 instead of 63 hp) and the uncomfortable struts were mentioned as negative.
successor
As a successor to the RC 05, Honda presented the visually more modern designed CB 650 SC (RC 08).
