Honda FT 500

The FT 500 is a motorcycle made by the Japanese manufacturer Honda in the early 1980s. Driven by a 500 cm 3 single-cylinder engine, it competed with the Yamaha SR 500, which was successful on the market at the time . FT stands for "Flat Track".

The look of the motorcycle was based on the racing machines that were used in so-called dirt track races in the USA , hence the name Flat Track. The four-stroke engine was essentially taken over unchanged from the Enduro XL 500 S ; however, the FT 500 has an electric starter and a larger oil pan with an oil filter inserted from below and larger exhaust connections on the cylinder head. The combination of a single-tube frame that is open at the bottom , a long, flat telescopic fork with 37 mm thick stanchions and a long wheelbase promotes straight-line stability and comfort.

The production of the FT 500 was stopped in Japan in 1983.
