Honorio Delgado
Honorio Delgado Espinoza (born September 26, 1892 in Arequipa , † November 28, 1969 in Lima ) was a Peruvian natural scientist , physician , psychiatrist , philosopher , humanist and author . He was the first rector (1962–1967) of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima.
Life
Honorio was born in the city of Arequipa in southern Peru. After completing his basic training at Gran Padre San Agustín de Arequipa, he relocated to Lima, around 1000 kilometers away, and graduated from Bachillerato there . Thus he achieved the university entrance qualification and studied first at the Colegio Nacional Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe natural sciences and from 1912 also medicine at the Facultad de Medicina Humana San Fernando in Lima.
He completed his first degree as a doctor in January 1920. From 1922 he was a professor of general pathology . In 1923 he finished a second degree as a doctor of natural sciences. Honorio Delgado then worked at the Faculty of Medicine as Head of Clinical Propaedeutics . From 1930 he was for many years lecturer at the Faculty of Psychiatry and representative of the Faculty of Medicine at the public La Sociedad de Beneficencia Pública de Lima.
In the 1960s, Honorio Delgado founded the Union Medical Cayetano Heredia together with Alberto Hurtado and other professors, which led to the founding of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Delgado was elected the first rector of the new university.
Honorio Delgado died on November 28, 1969 at his home in Lima.

- Las Palmas Magisterial Peru.
- Grand Cross of the Order of Hipólito Unanue.
- Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The city council of his birthplace Arequipa erected public buildings which bear his name.
