Horizon (magazine)
Horizon: A Review of Literature and Art (German: Horizont: Eine Zeitschrift für Literatur und Kunst ) was a British monthly magazine that appeared from 1940 to 1950.
The English writer and literary critic Cyril Connolly edited it in London together with Peter Watson . Connolly was responsible for the literary part, Watson financed the project and determined the art part. Stephen Spender also worked as editor in the early years .
Horizon first appeared immediately after the start of World War II. Despite the small circulation of less than 10,000 copies, the magazine had a great influence on the intellectual life of the Anglo-Saxon world thanks to its well-known authors. Special editions were devoted to Ireland (1941), Switzerland (1946) and the United States (1947).
