The Horsa Nunatakkers are an isolated group of five mainly snow-covered nunataks in the northeast of the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . They tower 22 km north of Mount Calais above the Roberts Piedmont Glacier .
The first aerial photographs were taken in 1936 during the British Graham Land Expedition (1934–1937) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer John Rymill . The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey carried out on-site surveys in 1948. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it after Horsa in 1955 , a legendary Anglo-Saxon leader of the 5th century together with his brother Hengist .
