Pure Gold - Best of Vol. 2 -

Pure Gold -. Best of Vol 2 is the eighth compilation of German pop-rock - band Unholy . Furthermore, the compilation is known in its limited edition as Rares Gold - Best of Vol. 2 .

Creation and artwork

Almost all of the pieces on the album were written by the Unheilig frontman, the Count , in collaboration with changing co-authors. Most of the titles were created in collaboration with the German music producer Markus Tombäne (14 titles) and the keyboardist of the band Henning Verlage (22 titles). The music producer Kiko Masbaum appears as the author of two titles, and individual composers and songwriters such as Annette Humpe or Hans Hammerschmid also appear. Most of the titles in the compilation were produced by publishers (22 titles), some in collaboration with Tombülle (13 titles). Other producers are Der Graf (6 titles), Masbaum (4 titles), Roland Spremberg (3 titles), Thorsten Brötzmann and Philip Niessen (2 titles) as well as other isolated producers. The album was mostly mixed by publishers (13 titles), Moritz Enders and Olsen Involtini (7 titles each). Several productions were mixed by, among others, the Grafen (5 titles), Masbaum (3 titles) and Spremberg (2 titles). The mastering was done by Truebusyness in Berlin, under the direction of Sascha "Busy" Bühren. Pure Gold - Best of Vol. 2 was published under the Vertigo / Capitol music label and distributed by Universal Music Publishing .

On the cover of the album - next to the artist name and album title - a windmill can be seen. The picture of the windmill is in black and white , around the picture there is a gold and black frame that contains the artist name and the title of the compilation. The silhouette of the Count can be seen on the stairs of the windmill. As with various Unheilig publications before, the cover image comes from the Dirk Rudolph office and photos from the booklet by German photographer Erik Weiss.

content

All the lyrics on the album are written in German and are mainly written by the Unheilig frontman the Count, who wrote the pieces together with changing co-authors. Pures Gold - Best of Vol. 2 is the successor of Alles hat seine Zeit - Best of Unheilig 1999-2014 and contains a compilation of works that appeared after Alles hat seine Zeit as well as rarities from the early Unheilig times. The compilations consist of 36 studio recordings of which one instrumental is included as well as two live recordings from MTV Unplugged from 2015. With The First Snow , Let's Dance and Stars Up there are three new songs on the album. The collaboration with Licky Wo bist du appeared for the first time on an Unheilig sound carrier, previously the song appeared as a guest contribution by the Count on Licky's solo album Gravity Castle . The piece contains lines of text in both German and English. On Licky's album the song was released under the English title "Where are You", on Unheilig Album under the German title Wo bist du . The songs The sky above me , lifeless and sunny have been revised and re-recorded. With Die Lebenden und die Toten ( Ich + Ich ), For me it should rain red roses ( Hildegard Knef ) and Lebensweg ( Saltatio Mortis ) are three cover songs on the compilation. There are also three duets on the album. With the German crossover project The Dark Tenor , Unheilig recorded the songs Sterne hoch and Zeitreise , as well as the piece Wo bist du auf with the guitarist Licky . The play time travel was taken within four years with three guest musicians. In addition to the version with The Dark Tenor on this album, Unheilig recorded an unplugged version with Helene Fischer and the original with Xavier Naidoo . Naidoo is also involved as a copywriter on the piece. The titles Forever , Born to Live , City Lights, and Under Your Flag were already on All Has A Time .

Single releases

The sky above me (2017 version)

An official single from this compilation did not take place. With Der Himmel über mir (Version 2017) only a first promo single was released . This is a new edition of the original from the Astronaut EP from 2006. In terms of content, the count describes in the song, among other things, with the text passage: “All these words and every thought is mine. I'm just a little light among the big lights here. I just want to live and give myself over to my dreams, even if that makes me unholy for them ”the origin of the band name. The single was released as a single download on September 8th, 2017. Two weeks after the initial release, a music video was released on September 22nd, 2017. You can see people of different ages, genders and origins speaking the song lip-synchronously against the backdrop of a sky. Sometimes scenes of the protagonists from their everyday lives can also be seen. The main focus is on the role of a priest with whom the video begins and ends. In between, old scenes of the count can be seen again and again. As with many Unheilig music videos before, it was again directed by Markus Gerwinat.

Sunny day (version 2017)

On September 29, 2017, Sonnentag (2017) was the second and so far last promo single from the compilation. The piece is a reinterpretation of the original of the fourth studio album, Moderne Zeiten . The official music video for the single was released on October 20, 2017. It shows a woman leaving a church with an urn in her hand. She runs over the associated cemetery, meadows, fields and a beach, to a jetty on the Baltic Sea coast in Heiligendamm . On this the woman dumps the ashes over the sea. The total length of the video is 3:28 minutes. Markus Gerwinat again directed.
