Great freedom 36
The Große Freiheit 36 is a music club in Hamburg in the St. Pauli district . The Kaiserkeller is located in the basement . Galeria 36 is located in the upper area.
history
As early as the 1940s, the Hippodrom , a entertainment venue made famous by the Hans Albers films, was located at the same address and housed a rotunda filled with sawdust, where guests and in-house artists could ride real horses. The building was destroyed by bombing during World War II and rebuilt after 1945. Bruno Koschmider (* 1926; † 2000), a former trapeze artist, opened the Kaiserkeller in October 1959 at Grosse Freiheit 36, with space for 550 guests (without seats). On September 19, 1985, the music club opened under the current name Große Freiheit 36 with a concert by blues guitarist Rory Gallagher . A year later, the Kaiserkeller was reopened in the basement and a café was set up on the upper floor. On February 19, 2015, the club concert for the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 took place in Große Freiheit 36 .
