Hoodie Allen (2013)

Hoodie Allen (born August 19, 1988 ; real name Steven Adam Markowitz ) is an American hip hopper , singer and rapper . Although he is not under contract with any record label and sells his records himself, his two EPs Americoustic and All American made it to number 10 and 29, respectively, in the US album charts , number one in the iTunes charts and various other placements in international charts. On the first day of People Keep Talking's release , the album hit # 4 on the iTunes charts. His stage name comes from his teenage nickname, hoodie , and a play on words with film director Woody Allen .

Career

Steven Markowitz was born to Jewish parents and grew up in Plainview ( Oyster Bay ) on Long Island . He has a brother, Daniel. As a child he started writing lyrics and rapping for his friends at parties. Allen first went to Long Island School for the Gifted in Huntington Station and later to Plainview - Old Bethpage John F. At Wharton School , Allen joined the Alpha Epsilon Pi brotherhood . After completing his bachelor's degree in Marketing and Finance in 2010, he worked at Google as an AdWords Associate. In retrospect, Allen said:

"[...] even when I was on Google there was so much going on and I felt like I was doing two jobs."

- Hoodie Allen in an interview with Mashable

After getting opportunities to perform live, he decided to quit Google and devote himself entirely to his music. Since then he has given concerts in the USA, Canada and Europe .
