Just like you were is a song by the German band Unheilig . It was released as a single from their seventh studio album, Lights of the City . The single was first sold on February 24, 2012 in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The second track on the maxi CD , Nachtschicht , was not featured on the album Lichter der Stadt .

The melody for the chorus comes from Leonard Cohen's song Hallelujah , which is why the emphasis on “As you were” is also based on the word “Hallelujah”. The song is about a dying man.
Music video
The music video was first shown on February 17, 2012 on the Unheilig and clipfish websites . In the music video, an old man with a suitcase gets out of a train at a train station and remembers his childhood friend when he sees an old black and white photo. Then the old man's memories of the past, the count's singers and the old man's way through the city are shown alternately. At the end of the music video, the old man meets his childhood friend in her flower shop. The station and city scenes were filmed at Hamburg-Altona station .

criticism
metalize.de described the music of the song as a ballad-like rhythm and catchy tune , but criticized the fact that the song is based on "an undemanding text" and that it lacks a "complex, exciting song structure". derwesten.de rated the song as "a companion for the dying, frozen to notes". terrorverlag.de classified the song as “not that bad at all”, but “in the midst of other candlelights” it lost itself “in a shallow nothing”.
