Mount Calais is a massive and 2345 m (according to the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee 2350 m ) high mountain in the northeast of the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It is located on the northwest bank of the Schokalski Bay .
It was first sighted and roughly mapped in 1909 during the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition (1908–1910) under the direction of Jean-Baptiste Charcots , who named the mountain after the northern French port city of Calais . The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey carried out a detailed survey in 1948.
