Horst Bechstedt (born April 30, 1928 ) was a football player in Weißenfels . There he played for the SC Progress in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR Football Association .

The 26-year-old Bechstedt was in the 1954/55 season midfield director of the SC Progress Weissenfels team, which made it to the GDR league. Together with Heinz Harnisch, he formed the midfield axis and usually played on the right side. He initially retained this position in the major league and was able to defend his status as a regular player there. However, he had to suspend the first seven point games in 1956. When his midfield partner Harnisch retired in the course of the 1957 season, coach Worbs Bechstedt moved to the left midfield position, this season he was only missing in three league games. Bechstedt played his last league season in 1959. At the age of 31, he was still used in left midfield in all matches until matchday 14. On the 15th matchday he played his last league game in the match between SC Turbine Erfurt and SC Progress Weissenfels (0-0) on August 9, and was substituted during the game. Within four league seasons, Bechstedt had been used in 76 games and scored three goals.
