Herbert Worbs (born December 1, 1915 in Thomasdorf , Silesia ; † May 13, 1997 ) was a soccer player and soccer coach in the GDR soccer game . From 1955 to 1959 he coached the SC Progress Weissenfels in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR Football Association .

After completing his school education, Worbs completed an apprenticeship as a locksmith. During the Second World War he was a soldier and was taken prisoner by the English. At the end of the war, his family had to flee Silesia and settled in Bad Dürrenberg . Herbert Worbs joined the soccer team of SG Grün-Weiß Bad Dürrenberg, which later became the company sports association (BSG) Chemie, and usually played in the midfield. He also trained as a football coach.

In 1951 he took over the training of the second-rate BSG Progress Weissenfels, which he led to third place in the GDR league in his first season . The central GDR soccer section became aware of him and nominated him as the second coach for the GDR's first official international match on September 21, 1952 (3-0 in Warsaw against Poland). In July 1953 Worbs moved to the GDR league club BSG Chemie Wolfen . In the 1954/55 season he helped the team to 5th place in league season 1, which qualified for the first GDR league , which was reduced from three seasons to one season . At the same time, his former team progress Weissenfels, meanwhile promoted to the sports club, rose to the GDR league and brought Worbs back as a coach. In Weißenfels Worbs worked until the end of the 1959 season, in which he led the progress team to their best league result in sixth place. During this time he obtained the trainer diploma at the Leipzig Sport University DHfK . Under his leadership, Alfred Reinhardt became a national player.

Until the end of 1965, Worbs was a district trainer in the GDR district of Halle . Progress Weissenfels had meanwhile been relegated to the GDR league and again downgraded to the BSG. When the team got into relegation trouble again in 1965, the Weißenfelser brought Worbs back as coach, but he could no longer prevent relegation. Within a year he managed to get the team back into the GDR league. By decision of the GDR sports association DTSB , Worbs later had to leave Weißenfels and from 1969 worked for the fourth division club BSG Motor Aschersleben . Here, too, he managed to get the team up within a year, but BSG Motor was only able to stay in the district league for one season . In the summer of 1974 Worbs returned to Weissenfels for the third time and became a trainer and sports instructor at BSG Progress, whose soccer team had finally made it into the district league. With her he celebrated twice the success of winning the district cup. In 1983 Herbert Worbs retired.
