Horst Koch (musician)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Horst Koch (born June 24, 1943 in Dublin , † September 10, 2009 in Berlin ) was a German songwriter .

Horst Koch, who had an Irish father, grew up with his German mother in Saxony. In the mid-1960s he discovered flamenco in Spain and started playing guitar himself. He later moved to Worpswede , where he painted and appeared as a songwriter, accompanying himself with guitar , harmonica and air pump . Koch had lived in Berlin since the early 1970s and played his mostly very bizarre songs with great success in folk pubs such as Go-In, Steve Club and Folkpub. Along with Ulrich Roski , Insterburg & Co. , Schobert & Black , Dieter FH Kosanke and others, he was counted among the "stupid bards". His first LP, Das Blutbad , was released in 1972 , which was followed by three more. Later he withdrew from the scene and only played occasionally in a smaller group.

Horst Koch was also an enthusiastic boules player and has played in various Berlin championships. He was often seen on the central promenade of Charlottenburger Schloßstraße , where the boules fans from the surrounding area usually play.

On September 10, 2009, according to eyewitnesses, Horst Koch suffered a heart attack in his local pub on Klausenerplatz in Berlin-Charlottenburg , from which he died despite being on an emergency medical basis.
