Horst Koschka

Horst Koschka (born September 8, 1943 in Altenberg ) is a former German biathlete who competed for the GDR.

Koschka grew up in the Zinnwald border town in the Eastern Ore Mountains , went to school there and learned the trade of a wooden model maker. In 1959, at the age of 16, he joined the GDR biathlon center SG Dynamo Zinnwald , where he was trained by Max Braun. In 1962 and 1963 he was GDR junior champion with the Dynamo relay and won the junior championship in individual races in 1964. Koschka won his only GDR individual title in the men's category in 1969.

At the biathlon world championships Koschka started in 1967 (8th individual), 1969 (6th individual) and 1970, where he took 3rd place with the GDR relay.

Koschka experienced his first Olympic participation in Grenoble in 1968 . There he was 10th in the individual race and 6th with the relay. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Sapporo, he won the bronze medal in the GDR relay (with Joachim Meischner , Hansjörg Knauthe and Dieter Speer ) over 4 × 7.5 km.

After his active time Koschka became a biathlon trainer, later a referee.
