Horst Kosel

Horst Kosel (born July 6, 1927 in Bernsdorf ; † February 24, 2012 in Pulheim ) was a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

At the age of 15 Kosel went to the midshipman school in Wolgast , in 1944 he was drafted into military service and was taken prisoner. After the end of the war he worked for the mine clearance service until 1949. From 1951 he studied at the Sport University Cologne (DSHS) and was employed there from 1955 as a sports teacher, teaching in the special subject of disabled sports until 1965 and then as a university teacher at the Institute for Rehabilitation and Disabled Sports. At the same time he attended evening school in Cologne and passed the Abitur in 1960 . He then studied psychology , philosophy and physiology at the University of Cologne while continuing to work as a teacher at the sports university .

In 1976 Kosel completed his doctoral thesis at the sports university (subject: "On the attention problem and its importance in sport: comparative study of team and individual athletes"). Between 1977 and 1982 Kosel was a professor at the DSHS and from 1982 until his retirement in 1991 as a university professor.

From 1965 to 1975, Kosel was in charge of sports for the disabled at the sports university and from 1967 to 1971 he was also in charge of gymnastics. From 1975 to 1991 he was also chairman of the examination office. Kosel, who, in addition to his work at the sports university, held teaching assignments in curative education at the University of Cologne , dealt in teaching and research in particular with the subject didactics of sport with the physically and sensually handicapped, the psychology of the handicapped, special education and special movement studies for Disabled person.

In addition to his research activities, he shaped the development of federal German disabled sports through his honorary posts: From 1960 to 1988 Kosel was first federal sports supervisor, then federal instructor of the German disabled sports association . At the “World Games for the Paralyzed” and the “International Games for the Disabled” between 1960 and 1984, he was part of the German delegations in various offices. From 1978 to 1981 he was a member of the executive committee of the International Disabled Sports Association ISOD and from 1981 of the International Blind Sports Association IBSA.
