Horst Seidl

Horst Seidl (born August 27, 1938 in Berlin ) is a German philosopher and historian of philosophy and professor emeritus of philosophy at the Pontificia Università Lateranense (the Pontifical Lateran University). He is also a member of the Pontifical Thomas Academy .

Life

Horst Seidl studied at the University of Munich and, after completing his doctorate on May 12, 1965 and his habilitation in 1971, taught there as a lecturer or professor of philosophy from 1970 to 1979. From 1979 to 1988 he was professor of ancient philosophy at the Katholieke Universiteit in Nijmegen (now Radboud Universiteit). From 1988 to 2000 he held the chair of ethics at the Pontificia Università Lateranense and from 2000 the chair of antiquity at the same university. He has been retired since August 1st, 2008.

In the history of philosophy, Seidl has primarily dealt with the philosophy of Aristotle , that of Thomas Aquinas and the reception of Aristotle by Thomas, as well as metaphysics , epistemology and ethics .
