Horst Walter Blanke

Horst Walter Blanke (born September 13, 1954 in Essen ) is a German historian.

Blanke studied history and German at the Ruhr University Bochum , in London and Chicago and received his doctorate in Bochum in 1986. In 1997 he completed his habilitation in Bielefeld. From 1986 to 1989 he taught at the University of Bochum and then in Bielefeld and is a private lecturer (from 2007 professor) at the Institute for Cultural Studies in Essen .

He deals with the historiography and science of the 18th and 19th centuries, the history of Canada, the history and culture of travel, the history of film.

In 2009 he received the Wedekind Prize for German History from the Göttingen Academy of Sciences for his edition and bibliography on Johann Gustav Droysen's "Historik" (Volume 2 of the Droysen Edition published by Frommann-Holzboog ).
