Horstmar (noble family)

The Lords of Horstmar are a historical aristocratic family who lived in Horstmar Castle in today's Horstmar , Steinfurt / NRW district.

history

The oldest known member of the family is Bernhard I. von Horstmar , who is attested as Lord von Horstmar between 1146 and 1180. After several divisions of the family in the 13th century into the branches Horstmar, Ahaus and Ottenstein, the family continued with the branch Horstmar-Ahaus, which later called itself Nahuys and was raised to a county in 1644, until the 19th century. One of the most famous family members was the knight , crusader and diplomat Bernhard the Good , who died in the Battle of Ane in 1227 .

The coat of arms is divided fourteen times by blue and gold, on top of which is a raised red lion crowned in gold. Growing on the helmet of the lion.
