Hospital de Santiago
Hospital de Santiago is a former 16th century hospital in the city of Úbeda in the Spanish autonomous community of Andalusia in the province of Jaén .
history
The National Monument Hospital de Santiago was built between 1562 and 1575 according to the plans of Pedro de Vandelvira . After Pedro's death, Andrés de Vandelvira was appointed his successor and architect and construction manager of the hospital in 1562. The hospital for poor patients was built on behalf of the Bishop of Jaén Diego de los Cobos . It is considered one of the great works of Renaissance architecture in healthcare in Spain.
The complex was listed as a historical monument (Real Orden, 3 de abril de 1917) as early as 1917 and has been a cultural center with a library since then and is now also used for exhibitions and conferences.
