Career

The Underachievers consists of the two Eastcoast rappers Issa Gold and AK, who met through a mutual friend at a psychedelic drug party at the age of 16. The American producer and rapper Flying Lotus took them on to his Brainfeeder label in 2012 . They then released their first two mixtapes Indigoism and Lords of Flatbush in 2013 . They released their first studio album Cellar Door: Terminus Ut Exordium on August 12, 2014. Shortly afterwards, they announced a collaboration with the hip-hop group Flatbush Zombies , a friend of theirs, with the help of a flyer on Instagram , which mainly focuses on live performance in Shape of a tour will restrict.

The name Underachievers was based on AK's school career, during which time he was constantly under the influence of drugs and the teachers warned him that despite his talents, he could never achieve anything.

Drug conflicts

In their youth, people often met in their circles for so-called drug parties, at which, among other things, mainly psychedelic intoxicants such as LSD were consumed. But they got away from that and switched almost entirely to marijuana .

Prior to an appearance on their tour, they were stopped by the police while leaving their hotel in St. Louis for Kansas and their entire tour van was searched for drugs. One pack with cannabis and another with acid could be seized. After the seizure, Issa claimed there was no intoxicant in the acid bag and ate the whole pack in front of the officers. "I didn't mean to let the cops run away with the drugs, so I broke them down completely! [...] we had a damn great show in Kansas! ", he said in an interview with the music magazine Juice .
