Hossein Sabet

Hossein Sabet Baktash (* 1935 in Mashhad ) is an Iranian entrepreneur with his main residence in Berlin . He is the owner of Sabet International Trading Co.

Life

Sabet came to Germany in the late 1960s to study engineering . In Berlin he founded a trading company that became the largest German importer of oriental carpets . In 1980/81 he made headlines with the attempt to develop the Berliner Abendblatt Der Abend into a left-liberal alternative to the Tagesspiegel .

In 1984 he was sentenced to a two-year suspended sentence for tax evasion . However, the charges related to the bankruptcy of the "evening" were all dropped.

With a hotel group and other properties in the Canary Islands , he continued to expand his fortune. In the 1970s he founded the Stella Canaris hotel complex in Jandia, which he sold to the Spanish Dunas Group in 2003. After the Dunas Group went bankrupt in 2010, Sabet signed a five-year lease to operate the Stella Canaris. After unpaid bills, the hotel was closed in 2013 and an arrest warrant for a prison sentence of over 5 years was issued against Sabet in October 2016 for tax evasion. Following an agreement with the Spanish authorities, the warrant was withdrawn in early 2017.

In 1999 Sabet went back to Iran to build and operate the Dariush Grand Hotel (completion 2003) on the Iranian holiday island of Kisch . In 2014 the Dariush Grand Hotel along with Dolphin Park and Birds Garden was sold to the Iranian entrepreneur Seyed Abdoulreza Mousavi. In 2016, Sabet opened two schools in his native Mashhad, which he gave as a gift after the city opened. In the same year he established a foundation in honor of the Iranian poet Ferdowsi . Sabet announced that an amusement park in combination with a hotel will be built on an area near the Ferdowsi monument. Construction work began in August 2016.
