The Hotel Rheineck was a hotel in Niederdollendorf , a district of the city of Königswinter in the North Rhine-Westphalian Rhein-Sieg district , which was built after 1900 and demolished in 2005. It stood as a monument under monument protection .

location

The hotel was on the Rheinuferpromenade (address: Rheinufer 108) at the landing stage of the Rhine ferry Bad Godesberg – Niederdollendorf as a corner building to Fährstraße.

history

The hotel started operations in a villa built in 1900 . Around 1910 a veranda was added to the Rhine . Together with a group of three of two-storey terraced houses (built in 1905/06) immediately to the south, it formed an ensemble that had a counterpart in the former Rheinhotel on Godesberger Strasse. After extensive renovations on the Rhine front and the expansion of the Rhine promenade from 1968, this ensemble was the only evidence of the shape of the Niederdollendorfer bank of the Rhine in the period after the turn of the century. There were old chestnut trees on the property of the hotel. On November 29, 1989 the building was entered in the monuments list of the city of Königswinter. The foundations of the building were damaged in severe Rhine floods, the last time in 1993 and 1995.

In the spring of 2002 the inn, which was last run only as a restaurant and café, was closed; the operator and owner at the time intended to sell the property. At this point in time, an investor had already started planning to demolish the former hotel building due to the poor fabric of the building and to build a complex with condominiums in its place. The plans as well as those of another investor met with rejection from the city of Königswinter, so that the rebuilding of the property was delayed. The plans of another investor from Bad Honnef for a complex were finally approved, which , in addition to condominiums, also again provided for a restaurant on the ground floor. The former Hotel Rheineck was demolished at the end of March 2005, and the old chestnut trees were also removed.

architecture

The former Hotel Rheineck comprised a two-storey villa from 1900 with a later purified plaster facade , which had historicizing decorative shapes and a round tower in the northwest corner, as well as a veranda extension from around 1910 with a roof terrace . At the corner of Fährstrasse there was a raised garden terrace with a parapet wall.
