Zuiderzeewerke with Houtribdijk.

The Houtribdijk ( German  Houtribdeich , also known as Markerwaarddeich , Markermeerdeich and Damm Enkhuizen-Lelystad ) is a dike in the Netherlands and part of the Zuiderzeewerke . The dike (actually a dam ) was built between 1963 and 1976 and separates the IJsselmeer from the Markermeer .

A road and a cycle path cross the dike and connect the towns of Enkhuizen in the province of Noord-Holland and Lelystad in the province of Flevoland . The road is part of the N302 . It opened on December 14, 1976. The protective port Trintelhaven and a rest stop are roughly in the middle of the dike.

There are three lock complexes for shipping:

  • The Krabbersgat locks (commercial) and the Houtrib locks near Lelystad are necessary to regulate the water level in the Markermeer and IJsselmeer.
  • The Naviduct Krabbersgat in Enkhuizen serves as an intersection for road and (leisure) shipping. It is the first structure of its kind in the world and was completed in 2003. The locks are 125 meters long, 12.5 meters wide and have a threshold depth of −4.5 meters NAP ( Amsterdam Level ). The road runs below the double lock, the lowest point is at −10.80 meters NAP.
