Howard Arthur Allen

Howard Arthur Allen (born February 10, 1949 in Indianapolis ) is a death row American serial killer of African American origin. He killed at least three old women in the vicinity of his hometown between 1974 and 1987 and is the prime suspect in eleven other cases of robbery of elderly people in the Indianapolis area.

Deeds

In 1974, Allen had robbed and killed 85-year-old Opal Cooper in her apartment. The act was counted as manslaughter and punished with a prison term of between two and twenty years. After his release in 1985, he returned to Indianapolis and worked in a car wash.

On May 20, 1987, Allen beat and choked 87-year-old Laverne Hall in her apartment, so that she died nine days later. Another 73-year-old woman he attacked the same way on May 18 survived.

On July 14, 1987, Allen killed 73-year-old Ernestine Griffin in her apartment by stabbing her eight times with a 25 cm kitchen knife and hitting her head with a toaster several times. According to the relatives of the victim, his loot consisted of $ 15 and a camera.

Arrest and conviction

Based on testimony, Allen was charged on August 4, 1987 for the murder of Ernestine Griffin, burglary , assault , and deprivation of liberty in the May 18 attack, and for arson at an elderly man's home on June 2, 1987, who was not at the time of the crime arrested at home. In the course of the investigation, it was found that Laverne Hall was his immediate neighbor.

Because of the attack on May 18, Allen was sentenced to 88 years in prison as a habitual criminal in the spring of 1988. On May 11, 1988, Ernestine Griffin was sentenced to death for the murder and robbery, and Allen has been waiting for its execution ever since.
