The Howden Reservoir is a dam at the north end of the Derwent Valley , which partly in Derbyshire and partly in South Yorkshire in England is. The reservoir is shaped like a "Y" and the longest arm is almost 2 km long. The border between the two counties runs right through the lake along the course of the original river.

The construction of the reservoir began on July 16, 1901 and the completion was in July 1912. On the southern wall there is a completely brick wall , which is 36 m high and 330 m long.

The reservoir's main tributary is the Derwent , with smaller tributaries being the River Westend , Howden Clough, and Linch Clough . The Derwent leaves the reservoir at its southern end and immediately merges into the Derwent Reservoir .
