Hoya acanthominima is a plant of the genus of wax flowers ( Hoya ) of the subfamily of asclepiadoideae (Asclepiadoideae). With a flower diameter of 4 mm, Hoya acanthominima has one of the smallest flowers within the genus Hoya.

features

Hoya acanthominima is an epiphytic climbing plant with branched shoots. The bare shoots are round in cross section and have long internodes, but are well foliated. The leaves are stalked, the stems are 1.2 cm long and mostly curved. The fleshy leaf blades are elliptical, 4.4 to 8.5 cm long and 1 to 2.1 cm wide. They are bare with a leathery texture. The base and apex are pointed.

The umbel-shaped inflorescence contains about 13 flowers that are very loosely. The surface of the inflorescence is almost flat. The bare inflorescence stalks are approx. 8.5 cm long and round in cross section. The flower stalks are thread-shaped, glabrous and up to 1.9 cm long. The corolla measures only 4 mm in diameter. The sepals are elongated and tapering to a point. They are 1 mm long, mostly bare, only the edges are covered with cilia. The tips of the petals are strongly pushed back, the lower halves are fused. They are bald on the outside and partly downy hairy on the inside. The tips of the secondary crown are bare on the outside. They are spread out in the shape of a star, slightly curved downwards. The inner processes stand upright and bend over the stylus head. The apex is blunt with a longitudinal depression. The outer processes are bilobate, cut narrowly from the tip. The pollinia are elongated, 230 µm long and 100 µm wide. The corpusculum is rhombic and has a total length of 130 µm, a shoulder width of 70 µm. The caudiculae are 140 µm long and 30 µm thick.

Geographical distribution and habitat

The species is so far only known from the type locality near Meragondon, Real Quezon, Luzon, Philippines. It grows there in tropical rainforests near the coast.
