Hoya linearis is a plant of the genus of wax flowers ( Hoya ) of the subfamily of asclepiadoideae (Asclepiadoideae).

features

Hoya linearis lives epiphytically. It has up to 1.5 m long, hanging, relatively thin, soft shoots. These are grayish-green in color and have rough hairs. The persistent, stalked, linear leaves with a round cross-section measure 2.5 to 5 cm × 0.5 cm, the stems are only about 2 mm long. The leaves are fleshy, dark green in color and slightly hairy. They are wedge-shaped at the base, pointed at the end and have a groove on the underside.

The inflorescence is terminal and many-flowered (up to about 15 flowers per umbel). The peduncle of the individual flowers measures about 2.5 cm. The sepals are lanceolate and hairy. The corolla has a diameter of about 1 cm. It is white, glabrous on the inside or somewhat papillae, the edge is ciliate. The corolla lobes are pointed and bent back. The staminal corolla lobes are pale pink or yellowish in color. They are approximately cylindrical, the outer furrowed extension incised. The inner process, on the other hand, is a little darker and more pointed. The flowering time is in autumn. In the evening the flowers smell faintly of lemon. The spindle-shaped fruits measure up to 6.5 cm in length and about 0.5 cm in diameter. The seeds are 3 mm in diameter with a white tuft of hair up to 2 cm long.

Geographical occurrence

The species occurs in India ( Sikkim ), Nepal and southern China ( Yunnan ) at altitudes between 1500 m and 2000 m.
