Hoya lanceolata is a plant of the genus of wax flowers ( Hoya ) of the subfamily of asclepiadoideae (Asclepiadoideae).
features
Hoya lanceolata has hanging shoots that are heavily leafed and covered with short downy hairs. The fleshy, bare leaves sit on stems 2.5 mm long. The leaf blades are lanceolate to oblong trapezoidal and 2 to 5 cm long and 1 to 2.5 cm wide. The leaf nerve is weakly developed except for the midrib.
The inflorescence is three to ten flowers , the stalked shamrock flat, drooping and often at the end of a shoot. The stalk of the inflorescence is 0.5 to 2 cm and has a few downy hairs. The flower stalk is 1.5 cm long. The corolla has a diameter of 1.3 cm and is pure white. The tips of the petals are spread in a star shape, tapering to a blunt end and covered with downy hairs on the inside. They measure 6 × 4 mm. The secondary crown is pink to purple in color. The staminal coronary lobes are cylindrical with a pointed outer process and a blunt, slightly upwardly directed, convex, upper process, inner process. The flower has a strong scent and smells fresh.
The very thin, spindle-shaped fruits are 12 to 15 cm long. The seed measures 2 mm in diameter and is equipped with a 2.5 cm long head of hair.
Geographical occurrence
The species occurs in Nepal , Bhutan , northern India and the western Himalayas .
Systematics
The taxon was described by David Don in 1825 . In 2002 Christiane Hoffmann, Ruurd van Donkelaar and Focke Albers divided the species into two subspecies in the succulent lexicon: Hoya lanceolata subsp. lanceolata and Hoya lanceolata subsp. bella . The latter is now accepted again as an independent species by the Plants of the World online database .
