Huỳnh Quang Thanh (born October 10, 1984 in Ho Chi Minh City ) is a Vietnamese former football player .

Career

Club career

Huỳnh Quang Thanh was under contract from 2005 to 2013 in the V-League with Becamex Bình Dương , previously the defender played for the lower-class club Ngân hàng Đông Á . In 2007 and 2008 he was Vietnamese champion with Bình Dương.

In 2013 Huỳnh Quang Thanh switched to Đồng Tâm Long An .

In February 2017, Huỳnh and his teammate Nguyen Minh Nhut caused a sensation when they motionlessly refused to play after a controversial penalty decision in the game against Hồ Chí Minh City FC . Both were then banned from the Vietnamese Association for two years; the trainer and the managing director of the club even for three years.

National team

From 2006 to 2012 Huỳnh played for the Vietnamese national team , with which he took part in the 2007 Asian Cup, in which Vietnam co-hosted. He reached the quarter-finals with the team, where they were defeated by Iraq 2-0. A year later, Huỳnh won the 2008 Southeast Asian Championship with Vietnam by beating Thailand 3-2 in the final .
