Huaylas (Peru)

Huaylas is a small town in the province of Huaylas in the Ancash region in a side valley of the Callejón de Huaylas in the Western Cordillera in northwestern Peru . Huaylas is the administrative seat of the district of the same name .

location

Huaylas is located on the Quebrada Huaylas, a small tributary of the Río Santa , which flows into the Santa Valley known as Callejón de Huaylas at Huallanca (1820 m above sea level) . Huaylas lies at an altitude of 2,720 m above sea level on the south-eastern slopes of the Cordillera Negra above the Cañón del Pato (Duck Gorge).

The population increased from 2,069 inhabitants in 392 residential buildings (1993 census) to 3,845 inhabitants (2005 calculation), mainly Quechua- speaking Indians who farm on the slopes around the small town.
