history
Hubbell was founded in 1905 by Harvey Hubbell II in Bridgeport , New England , after he patented the USA's first power plug in 1904 . Hubbell had previously invented a wrapping paper dispenser.
From 1901, Hubbell sold electrical accessories via catalog. In 1917 the catalog had 1,000 products. After the company's founder died in 1927, Harvey Hubbell III took over management of the company.
Harvey Hubbell III died in 1968, after which George Weppler became the first non-family CEO . In 1975 Weppler was replaced by Robert Dixon. He was followed by Fred Dusto (1983–1987) and George Ratcliffe (1987–2001).
Numerous acquisitions have been made since 1975. In 2009, Burndy was taken over by Framatome Connector International .
