The Scream

Hubert Bruhs (born September 22, 1922 in Cologne ; † July 3, 2005 in Windeck ) was a German sculptor .

Bruhs studied sculpture at the Cologne factory schools and architecture at the Cologne State Building School. During the Second World War he lost one eye and large parts of the other's eyesight, which is why he turned away from architecture and turned to sculpture. He lived and worked in Hürth - Efferen for 30 years .

A well-known work are eight 4.10 meter high and 2.25 tonne angels made of lead-clad larch wood on the crossing tower of Cologne Cathedral , for which Bruhs made the wooden cores in 1964 and 1965 based on a design by Erlefried Hoppe . Other works are the seven and a half meter high brick relief "the Council" on Hürther town hall and the bronze memorial "The Scream" in Huerth in memory of the victims of Nazism.

In 1981 Bruhs received the Hürth Culture Prize , and in 1992 the Culture Prize of the Rhein-Erft District .
