Hubert Haider (Linguist)

Hubert Haider (* 1953 in Ritterkamp in the municipality of Rappottenstein in the Waldviertel ) is an Austrian linguist . He works in the fields of syntax , psycholinguistics , neurolinguistics and computational linguistics .

Life

From 1973 Haider studied linguistics , mathematical logic and sinology at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1980 and qualified as a professor in 1987 . Since 1980 he has been an assistant professor at the Institute for Linguistics at the University of Vienna. In 1987 he was a visiting professor at the University of Stuttgart , and in 1988 he was appointed Professor of General Linguistics and German Linguistics.

Haider has been a full professor for applied linguistics at the University of Salzburg since October 1, 1996 ; from 1998 to 2013 he was also head of the linguistics department. In 2004 he was visiting professor at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst . He has been a member of the Academia Europaea since 2012 .
