Hubert Rumpel

Hubert Rumpel (born March 26, 1922 in Fürth ; † October 26, 2010 ) was a German historian.

Life path

Rumpel studied history , constitutional and canon law, philosophy , German , geography and art history in Vienna . He passed the state examination at the University of Erlangen, where he also received his doctorate in 1946. In 1959 he completed his habilitation in the field of Medieval, Modern and Modern History. After teaching at the University of Munich, he was appointed adjunct professor in Erlangen in 1967 and associate professor in 1978. In 1976/77 he was dean of the Philosophical Faculty I. In 1987 he retired.

His academic work focused on German and European constitutional and social history from the 15th to 18th centuries, the history of Southeast Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 15th to 19th centuries, the history of the First World War and heraldry as an auxiliary historical science.
