Work
Realization of advertising campaigns etc. a. for BMW, Prada, Bosch, Bulthaup, Coca-Cola, Deutsche Bank, Philipp Morris, Toshiba, Daimler Chrysler, Deutsche Bank, Ford, Fuji, Smart, Lufthansa and Marco Polo etc. as well as editorials, including for the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Vogue , Harpers Bazaar Focus, Spiegel, Stern und die Zeit. At the same time he began to examine artistic positions, where he discovered for himself that his photography is the production of objects. Hamm used this attitude of making objects from the start as his distinctive artistic strategy. His first works, which will be shown as part of the 'Exit' - Praterinsel for art - are not photographs, but installations and objects. Just like the early works “Portrait I” and “Portrait II”, which were shown in the exhibition (1990/1991) 'Faces', in the Villa Stuck, Munich and excerpts in the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg, photographic, dimensioned objects.
Since then, Hamm has intensified the examination of the possibilities of dimensionality and developed his own development, for which he consequently coined his own term: 'Dimensioning Photography'. Works on this were published by Fern Verlag, Berlin under the same title in autumn 2017 ( ISBN 978-3-95476-187-6 ). The starting point for this name finding was the fact that equations in physics and mathematics often cannot be solved in the same dimension from which the problem was started, but assuming further dimensions can. The best-known example is string theory , which tries to unite all natural forces in 11-dimensional equations. Hamm takes two-dimensional photographs as a starting point, but measures them e.g. B. through deformation or unfolding of the carrier material into the third dimension, uses, so to speak, like a sculptor, the photographic reality as a starting point for artistic design. Dimension becomes an independent artistic design tool and aesthetic program.
